2020 iROCKER All Around 10

2020 iRocker All Around 10

Summary

We’ve reviewed well over 100 iSUPs and at this point, it takes a lot to really get our attention. The reason why we have a soft spot for iRocker is simple: their boards are some of the most useable on the market, their high-quality included accessories and their reasonable pricing. With all that being said, how does the 2020 iRocker All-around 10’ hold up to its reputation?

Here we are in 2020 (for better or worse) and despite some of the rough first few months we’ve experienced, we have something to actually get excited about. Of all the brands we review, we would lie if we said that he didn’t have some favorites and one of our most favorite, iRocker, just came out with their new 2020 lineup.

Performance

From what we see, the performance is very similar to the 2019 model in that this is one of the most maneuverable iSUPs in the iRocker line. This is why while these aren’t surfing SUPs per se, if you were to do any surfing on an iRocker board, this would be the one to do it on.

One major difference in the performance in this year’s model is with the speed of the board. It’s 20% lighter than the previous model and the less weight you need to move, the more each paddle stroke will take you. However, if you’re looking for speed while still using an all-around of this brand, we recommend the longer version of this board.

Since it’s a little on the wide side, it’s more of a stable board than you would expect at 10’. Of course, that depends on your size and height. In fact, iRocker recommends this board for those at or below 5’10” and while that doesn’t mean that taller people can’t use this board, it’s just that they would be better off with the 11’ version.

Features

Ok, so there’s a lot to cover here. In our experience, one of the best ways to tell when a designer cares is with the amount and placement of grab handles. Just about all boards have a center grab handle to help with moving around land (and this one does, too), but to have handles by both the nose and tail makes life a lot easier when moving in and out of the water. Plus, that tail handle allows you to drag the board across the beach without damaging the fins.

The EVO foam pad will be different depending on which color board you choose (more on that in the next section). Regardless of which you choose, the pad is extra padded for extra comfort and textured to make sure that you don’t easily slip off into the deep blue yonder. However, if you choose an option that cuts down the total amount of deck space used by pad, you’ll be rewarded with extra bungee storage space in the back. So, it comes down to whether you need more usable deck space or more storage.

Speaking of storage, there’s…a lot. It’s rare that you’ll find another iSUP even come close to something like what this board offers. All versions have a 6-point bungee storage area with corresponding D-rings so that you can either store gear under the bungees or have them sit on top but clipped in. For the standard version of this board, you get the same storage and D-rings out back as well.

Oh! And those D-rings — there’s more than you would probably find on just about any other brand of iSUP, 20 in all. While many of these can be used for attaching bags, the truth is that they are on there for massive amount of attachments and even for towing or docking.

Lastly, a new option that we love this year is the addition of onboard action mounts. These really take the board to the next level since they give you the option to attach cameras, phones — even cup holders! — in addition to rod holders and fishing mounts which makes these boards even more useful on the water.

Board Design

As previously mentioned, there are a few different options for the color scheme of this board that are more like trim packages on a car. The Blue option is the standard and has all the features previously mentioned, whereas the Coral and Seafoam options have the longer pad but lack the extra storage space. An added benefit of the former 2 are that they have a gorgeous starburst design that would really complement the SUP for yoga.

There’s a reason why this is called an All-around, because it’s designed for just about anything. It’s a little bit wider than we would normally expect for a 10’ board which adds to it’s stability. The nose of the board is raised up at a higher angle than most iSUPs in what is called a rocker (we honestly don’t know if iRocker go their name from this or not) and the purpose of this is to help with choppy waters and comes in handy with surfing as well. This is why while you don’t have to worry about rough waters on this board, it isn’t recommended for long distance paddling.

Speaking of the nose, the shape of it is also very all-purpose. For rougher waters, you would expect a rounded noise and for flatwater, you would expect a v-shaped nose. Keeping that in mind, with one look of the shape on this iSUP and you can see it’s perfectly in the middle, giving you some of the benefits of both.

Lastly, the fin setup here is one of our favorites in the industry. A 3-fin thruster setup with all 3 fins removeable is a rarity to be sure. Being able to remove all 3 fins makes life a lot easier, especially when it comes to setting up and packing the board away or even stacking multiple boards.

Construction

In the past, quality in iSUPs was defined in how many layers of PVC a board had, and iRocker was always on the higher end with 4 layers. The downside to this is added weight. Over the past few years, more and more companies have been manufacturing boards with a tougher inside which lets them use fewer layers PVC and theoretically a lighter iSUP. While that may be true in making a stronger board, the problem is that this doesn’t help with outside damage like punctures.

iRocker’s new construction this year combines the best of both worlds by using a stronger drop stitch core while still having 3 layers of military grade PVC on the outside to protect the board. This creates a strong board that can withstand the elements while still finding a way to keep the weight down. This isn’t the lightest 10’ iSUP on the market but probably the strongest, pound for pound.

Included Accessories

Out of the box this iSUP comes with a super comfy backpack (with an option for adding wheels), dual chamber triple-action hand pump, carbon blend ultra-light adjustable paddle, 3 fins flip lock fins and a 10’ ankle leash with a key pocket. As always, these are some of the best quality accessories you can buy for an iSUP — and they come standard!

In addition, there is a huge amount of add-ons that you can purchase to really sup up your SUP! We won’t get into too deep into this since we could be here all day, but these include anchors, fishing setups and even electric air pumps. As with the rest of the iRocker philosophy, they are all high-quality yet super affordable.

Our Verdict

Without a doubt, we are in love with not just the All-Around 10’ but with the 2020 iRocker lineup as a whole. For the money, these boards blow just about everyone else out of the water and they continue to get better every year without any major changes to their prices.

While most of our complaints are minor (like the center handle not being more flat or even removable), this iSUP still gets one of our strongest recommendations. That being said, it’s not for everyone, especially if you’re on the taller side. But that’s not a reflection on the quality of the board, just that this is what you would expect from a 10’ SUP.

Should you go out and get yourself an iRocker All-Around 10’? If you’re on the smaller side — absolutely! If you’re taller or plan on taking on other riders, probably not, though with the amount of time and love they put into this board, perhaps something else in their lineup should do the trick!
