Tower Xplorer 14’

Summary

The Tower Xplorer offers a good touring experience. There are many features and benefits that work for the board. Least I forget, the inflatable SUP comes at an economical price, which probably will attract buyers; especially those looking for a lightweight, compact solution that is easy to maintain. That is the one of the many benefits of the Xplorer. Even though it is tall and thick, the board can be handled easily because of its 36lbs weight. Once deflated, it takes up as much space as a rolled-up sleeping-mat.
If you are looking for a board that is equal parts budget and performance, the Tower Xplorer is one of the best options.

Maybe you’re checking out this review because you think someone made a mistake with the name of the title, but you saw right — this Tower SUP comes in at a mammoth 14 feet. This is a perfect choice for someone debating between buying a SUP or a yacht. In addition to its length, it is also 32” wide and 8” thick.

This is an amazingly high-quality board that will get you and your friends where you want to go. Yes, we said “friends” as in 800 pounds worth. That’s right — this board can easily take 4 or more adults out on the water at a time.

Besides that, there are a number of reasons why a single paddler would want such a large board. For instance, you can take on nasty water conditions and decent-sized waves while still remaining upright. Also, this can be used as a touring board.

That’s to say for those who plan on taking their SUP out for long distances and for multiple days at a time. With a board like this, you can easily go fishing or do just about any kind of routine for yoga and other types of fitness without having to worry about stability or cramped quarters on the deck.

While we don’t recommend this for users due to the high price tag, it would otherwise be great for first-time paddlers with a large budget because of how stable it is in the water. Now let’s get into what you can expect when you open the 52-pound box.

SUP Features and Accessories

Tower makes sure to give you everything you need to get on the water from the moment the box is opened. This includes an air pump, carrying strap, and 3-piece paddle. While the paddle floats, users have noted that you need to be careful that water doesn’t get in between the sections, or else it may start to sink.

Overall Experience

One nice thing about this board is the lower PSI. Otherwise, you’d be using that pump for a long time to get it ready for the water. The board itself is a lot faster than you might expect at first. It’s so sleek, it reduces a lot of possible drag. Another surprise is how well it turns. Again, you would think that a board this size would need a team to turn, but it was engineered to make this a smooth ride that does everything you would expect and more.

We love the board itself and what Tower has designed. That being said, there are a few issues that we need to address. First off, apparently, Tower doesn’t believe in providing backpacks like other companies since they don’t have anything more than a carrying strap. Along with that, it also doesn’t come with an ankle leash or repair kit — again, two things that are common with other companies in their class.

Despite the minor inconveniences, this is a unique and incredible board. If you’re the kind of person that has to have the biggest car in the parking lot, this is an easy choice. For the rest of us, if you have the cash to spend on this SUP, it’s worth every penny of its performance, weight capacity, and comfort.
