Whenever we think of an all-purpose all-around iSUP, we have to keep in mind that it’s designed to be used for a long time while still being able to handle any type of water. And when we say, “long time,” that could mean hours or days at a time. That’s why it’s should be comfortable, stable and have plenty of storage space.

Performance

When we look at this iSUP with an eye to its performance, we have to understand that this sort of board is more complex than others. Beyond the standard metrics of speed, stability and maneuverability, we have to also factor in time. Can you spend a long time on this SUP without getting tired or being in pain? To that last point, we say absolutely! This is an incredibly comfortable iSUP that we could easily see ourselves going on a multi-day camping trip with.

As far as the other factors, this isn’t a fast board by any means, though since it’s lighter than last year’s model, each paddle stroke does get you further. The Cruiser is much more maneuverable than we would have imagined given its specs, though this might be a product of it being a relatively short all-around board and shorter boards usually turn quicker and easier.

But the big standout here is its stability, though this isn’t a big surprise. There are 2 factors that tend to drive stability: size of the board and weight capacity. That second one isn’t as obvious since 2 boards of the same size could have different capacities depending on the internal construction. Since the Cruiser has a weight capacity of over 400 pounds, stability just comes naturally.

Features

Of all types of iSUPs, we would expect an all-around board to be the most feature-rich — and iRocker didn’t disappoint! To start with, to the best of our recollection, we can’t think of another board on the market with more storage space. Both the front and back have 6-point bungee storage areas where you can put loose bags and equipment plus D-rings where you can clip on gear like dry bags or coolers.

On the topic of D-rings, there’s 20 on this iSUP. While you can use these for even more equipment, they have a variety of purposes such as towing and docking or attachment points for the included ankle leash and additional equipment such as the available kayak conversion kit, an addon that we highly suggest if you’re going to be on longer trips.

There are a total of 3 official handles Just about all boards have a center grab handle to help with moving around land (and this one does, too), but to have handles by both the nose and tail makes life a lot easier when moving in and out of the water. We say 3 “official” because there are up to 4 more if you count the padded part of the bungees, but we’re not sure if you cold since they don’t seem to be as sturdy as the other 3.

Finally, toward the back of the pad there are attachment points for action mounts. These can be used for cameras and a GPS or even fishing setups. iRocker saw that some other brands were including these on their boards and decided to include the same functionality for half the price. Again, if you plan to be in this board a while, you may end up really enjoying this new feature.

Board Design

You can tell that this is pretty popular iSUP just from the number of color options you have available. iRocker lets you choose between Aqua, Blue, Green, Grey, Orange and White color schemes.

The nose of the board has a medium rocker, which translates to being able to handle a variety of water types but it will perform best on flat water. Speaking of the nose, more of a V-shape to help cut through the water, but it’s still a little rounded so that you can still get some help with choppy water. Again, this is more of a shape meant for flat water.

Finally, we can’t forget the fin setup. A 3-fin thruster setup with all 3 fins removeable is a rarity to be sure. We personally think this is important in a board like this for multiple reasons, but the most important being that if you want to travel in shallower waters, you have the option to configure your fins accordingly so that you don’t have a long center fin dragging on a river bottom.

Construction

In the past, quality in iSUPs was defined in how many layers of PVC a board had, and iRocker was always on the higher end with 4 layers. The downside to this is added weight. Over the past few years, more and more companies have been manufacturing boards with a tougher inside which lets them use fewer layers PVC and theoretically a lighter iSUP. While that may be true in making a stronger board, the problem is that this doesn’t help with outside damage like punctures. And the last thing you need on a multi-day trip is a damaged board.

iRocker’s new construction this year combines the best of both worlds by using a stronger drop stitch core while still having 3 layers of military grade PVC on the outside to protect the board. This creates a strong board that can withstand the elements while still finding a way to keep the weight down. This isn’t the lightest 11’ iSUP on the market but probably the strongest, pound for pound.

Included Accessories

Out of the box this iSUP comes with a super comfy backpack (with an option for adding wheels), dual chamber triple-action hand pump, carbon blend ultra-light adjustable paddle, 3 fins flip lock fins and a 10’ ankle leash with a key pocket. As always, these are some of the best quality accessories you can buy for an iSUP — and they come standard!

In addition, there is a huge number of add-ons that you can purchase to really sup up your SUP! We won’t get into too deep into this since we could be here all day, but these include anchors, fishing setups and even electric air pumps. If you’re looking to get the most of this iSUP in particular, we highly suggest looking into these, especially the fishing attachments or kayak seat. As with the rest of the iRocker philosophy, they are all high-quality yet super affordable.

Our Verdict

Whenever we review iRocker boards, we have to be careful not to be biassed since they are easily one of the best iSUPS on the market, especially when you factor in price. Even though it’s technically an all-around, some see this as a light touring board. As a touring iSUP, the Cruiser has just about everything we would want to see and more, with the 2020 version being the best yet.

If we were to make a criticism, it would have to be with the length of the board. While it doesn’t play it huge factor, we generally want to see boards to be 11’ feet so that just anyone can use it regardless of their height. We feel that if they increased the length just 6”, it could make a noticeable difference in the overall speed of the board.

Other than that, this is a near-perfect all-around board if we ever saw one. If you’re not sure as to whether to get the 2020 iRocker Cruiser, we say get off the fence and onto this board!
